Colorado is a wonderland of outdoor activities and experiences such that it is very difficult to isolate a few best places to visit in Colorado. This gorgeous state provides an abundance of places to see and places to go, so here are just a few of the highlights.

Places To Visit In Colorado

Vail is a skier’s paradise. It is the biggest single-mountain ski resort in the USA with almost 200 marked trails.  It serves up a multitude of beginner, intermediate, advanced and expert trails that would take weeks and weeks to explore each and every one of them. The weather is ideally suited for dry, soft powder.  And, luckily enough, it seems mostly to snow at night, with beautiful cloudless days.  Chances are you will run into to great skiing weather when visiting this outstanding skier’s tourist attraction. Save on your accommodation costs in Vail by sourcing one of the many cabin rentals available in the area.

Black Canyon of Gunnison

You will find this spectacular natural wonder in the southwest region of Colorado.  The Gunnison National Park is home to the Black Canyon with a gorge that reaches 870 meters (2,700 feet) deep and runs several miles through the park.  Best views are along the South Rim Road that runs about 10km (6 miles) along the scenic canyon.  Make sure you take in the tallest cliff in the state – the Painted Wall at 686 meters (2,250 feet) high. Black Canyon easily one of the best places to visit in Colorado.

Rocky Mountain National Park

This national park is one of the busiest and best places to visit in Colorado in the summer.  With more than 100 peaks towering over 10,000 feet, with the highest at 14,259 feet, known as Longs Peak, there is no shortage of summer activities to revel in while relishing your Colorado family vacation. Be sure to travel along the Trail Ridge Road, which is the main and easiest route through the park, offering great vistas of the spectacular scenery. This road alone will take you up 12,000 feet with easy stops for half day or full day hikes into the mountains.

Garden of the Gods

Garden of the Gods is a majestic and unique landscape of naturally balanced rocks and stone towers that rise up to 300 feet into the air.  It is a registered National Natural Landmark, containing 15 miles of mostly short and easy trails that allow you to get up close and personal with these awe inspiring natural wonders.  There are walking trails, road bike lanes, mountain biking, horseback riding and rock climbing tours throughout the area.  Don’t miss the museum tourist attraction with giant windows providing spectacular views of the surrounding rock “gods”.

Mesa Verde National Park

Mesa Verde National Park is home to one of the US’s most important archeological sites of Native American culture in the country.  Within the park you will find the cliff dwellings of the ancient Anasazi people. These Ancestral Pueblos would build homes in the rock overhangs and shallow caves throughout the canyon walls, of which, Cliff Palace is the most famous tourist attraction. You can arrange guided tours of these 150 rooms and 76 open areas and marvel at the lifestyles of these ancient people. Don’t miss this unforgettable place to visit in Colorado.

Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve

Hard to believe, but the tallest sand dunes in North America are found in Colorado surrounded by majestic, towering mountains, and not on some giant beach of a great ocean.  The Star Dune is 750 feet high which is dramatically high, even for this area, and provides a fun spot for children and adults alike to frolic and explore upon. Within this national park you will find camp grounds, trails, and even a Medano Creek that runs along the base of these dunes, providing even more fun for children and adults to splash around in and cool off on a hot summer’s day.
